Parking Details for
DCM18's New Location

Visitors to DCM18 must NOT park in unmarked spaces or spaces with a red “R” in the main, paved parking lot. You will get towed!

The safest place to park is the gravel lot at the end of Belt Street with the metal PARK sculpture at the entrance. If you do park in the central, paved parking lot, park only in spaces marked Reserved for CC&W.

Spaces with a red R and unmarked spaces in that lot belong to Golden Belt/Scientific Properties. These spaces are not to be used by DCM18 patrons, and Scientific Properties has begun towing cars.

Please don’t get towed!

Volunteer Opportunities!

Have a little extra time on your hands? Looking for something to do with those free evenings? Need to work off some sweat equity hours? Why not support TPC/DCM18 with a little volunteer time! This week, we have the following items that we would love assistance with:

- Final Cut Pro Editing: If you’re certified in FCP and want to build up your chops or just get some practice time in, we have a myriad of projects that need some TLC. This work is based out of the Chapel Hill office.

- Flyering: Every now and again, it’s good for us to run a bunch of general flyers and leaflets around the area to let people know what we have to offer. If you have transportation and some free time, help us out!

- Data entry: Some of you have heard that we are transitioning to a new database so there are lots of things we need entered into our fancy new system. If you can type and enjoy detailed oriented work, this is the job for you!

Every week we have all kinds of opportunities just like this for people just like you! If you can help with any of the items listed above please give us a call. For DCM18, please call 688-0018. For TPC, please call 960-0088.

TPC/DCM18 Executive Director Chad Johnston receives Featured Leader recognition from NAMAC

The National Alliance for Media Art & Culture (NAMAC) selected TPC/DCM18’s Executive Director, Chad Johnston,
for their Featured Leader series!

What is NAMAC, you ask? In their words:
“NAMAC was founded in 1980 by an eclectic group of media arts organization leaders who realized they could strengthen their social and cultural impact by working as a united force. Their idea was as bold as it was simple: to create a national organization that would provide support services to its institutional members, and advocate for the field as a whole. Since its founding, NAMAC has worked to raise the profile and influence of the media arts on behalf of its growing and changing membership. Our members offer a wide range of services in support of the independent media arts, including production, exhibition, distribution, education, research, preservation and archive development, and telecommunications and cultural policy advocacy.”

The Peoples Channel and Durham Community Media would like to thank NAMAC for this wonderful honor!

Courses at TPC/DCM

Have you ever wanted to learn to make your own media, but thought it was far to daunting a task to attempt? You’re not alone, but The Peoples Channel and Durham Community Media are here for you!
We offer courses in media production that are unlike any around!

For starters, we offer Field/Edit/Production; this is a basic overview of what it takes to make your own TV show. It covers all the basics from script to screen and it certifies you to use our cameras, lights and sound equipment to make your very own show to air on TPC, DCM or both!

We offer courses in Final Cut Pro or Ulead (Corel Video Studio Pro) editing software if you’d like to take your production’s look to the next level. These courses are often small in size and large on individual attention, so don’t worry if you’re not the most tech savvy.

We also offer Studio Production; which allows you to make a studio quality show right here in Chapel Hill. If you’ve ever said “Camera 1, Camera 2” while opening and closing your right and left eye, you have the basic idea.
Come down to The Peoples Channel to learn how our studio and control room can enhance the look of your show and give you the skills to make your production feel like the pros did it!

And we’ve added Advanced Workshops in Final Cut Pro
(Saturday Only workshops in Compressor and DVD Studio Pro, Motion and Soundtrack Pro,) and a three day
Intro to Podcasting Course!

Call to reserve your spot or for more information
